Kendra Heisler Q&A

Kendra Heisler Q&A

Q: I was born in…

A: February, in NYC.

Q:My earliest art memory is…

A: my mother sharing her watercolor paints with me.  Also maybe this is a Brooklyn thing or a me thing but our apartment radiators were always crazy hot and if you held your crayons to them they would make these beautiful melted abstractions…

Q: I first realized I wanted to be an artist when…

A: no definitive moment but I loved the darkroom as soon as I stepped in. It’s all music and science and magic in there.

Q:My mentors are/were…

A:The people who brought me up. Joe Zarba, Lizzy Snaps, Ron Amato, Allison Wade, Ryan Pfluger.

Q: I feel most inspired to create when…

A: Who knows when it’ll hit. Music helps.

Q: When I feel stuck creatively, I…

A: collaborate.

Q: My favorite artists to follow are…

A: Right now it’s Jennifer Packer, Carrie Mae Williams, Johnny Floyd, Tone Tank, and Louis Sarowsky.

Q: I can’t start my day without…

A: I mean these days, like a fuckton of delusional optimism.

Q: My most prized art possession is…

A: any film camera, really.

Q: Finish this sentence: Art …

A: I think, inevitably, the conduit to our peace. We’ve got to get it out somewhere.
